FBS schools have to sponsor 16 sports

16 NCAA recognized team sports.

It's why so many of the "T-shirt Sports" are sponsored. (Soccer, track & field, cross country, women's volleyball, golf, tennis) These sports can use other on-campus facilities and not need their own. In the case of golf, they can use a local country club or public course.
